Overview of the Best Areas to Stay in Manuel Antonio
- Quepos – Laid-back Quepos is furthest from the national park, but it has the most amenities, and it’s actually known as the gateway to Manuel Antonio. Wide Mouth Frog Quepos is a modern and reasonably priced hotel and hostel with a nice pool.
- Espadilla Beach – The closest area to the national park and beach, this spot is fantastic for anyone who wants to be immersed in nature, but there are fewer amenities. Karahe Beach Hotel offers a laid-back boutique stay with private beach access.
- Manuel Antonio Finca – A quiet and more residential area that’s just a 10-minute drive from the national park, with more shops and restaurants than Espadilla Beach. Hotel Villas Lirio is a welcoming property nestled in tropical gardens.
- Quepos Point – A scenic peninsula nestled between beaches, offering incredible ocean views and an upscale vibe. Shana by the Beach is a beautiful hotel with a welcoming resort vibe.
Important Tip
Multiple Manuel Antonio trips have taught us that this city doesn’t reward spontaneity when it comes to planning. The good places get snapped up months in advance, leaving the overpriced and underwhelming options for last-minute travelers.
The sweet spot for booking Manuel Antonio accommodations is 3-4 months out—enough time to secure good rates but not so far ahead that you’re locking in plans excessively early.
Quepos
Quepos is the main gateway town to Manuel Antonio. Even though it’s the most popular area to stay in, it’s actually the farthest area from the park. Still, it’s only a 15–20 minute drive from Manuel Antonio’s lush jungle trails and white-sand beaches.
Quepos is a very convenient area to stay in because it offers the most amenities. There are supermarkets, pharmacies, and banks here as well as a decent selection of restaurants and bars.
What we like about Quepos is that it’s a working town with a strong fishing industry. Although there’s a good selection of hotels here, it’s not overly touristy. We enjoy the authentic vibe here compared to the more resort-heavy zones closer to the coast.
And although Quepos is not a beach town, it does sit right on the marina, so you can still enjoy ocean views. There’s also plenty of fresh seafood down at the waterfront—yum!
The town is also the hub for buses and shuttles in the region, and tours often depart from here, so it’s a really convenient base to explore. Quepos may not have the tropical glamour of other areas, but it offers convenience, local flavor, and more nightlife options than other areas.

Best Western Hotel & Casino Kamuk – $$$
If you want to stay right in the center of Quepos with ocean views and easy access to restaurants and shops, Best Western Hotel & Casino Kamuk is a great choice. With beach-style decor and light, spacious rooms, it promises a comfortable stay.
Breakfast is included too, and there’s an outdoor pool and casino on site if that’s your thing. We also think this hotel is really well located as it’s just a short walk from the marina where fishing and boat tours depart.
It’s a reliable pick that offers great location and amenities without the hefty price tag you’ll find closer to the park. Rooms here cost between $100 and $125 USD per night, but be warned—this place books up FAST during peak season.
Wide Mouth Frog Quepos – $$
Wide Mouth Frog Quepos is a friendly and affordable hotel slash hostel that’s become a favorite with backpackers, budget travelers, and digital nomads alike! It has a really relaxed, sociable vibe with a lovely garden area and pool, plus a communal kitchen and lots of shared spaces.
The rooms range from basic dorms to private ensuite options, so you can choose what suits your budget. It’s centrally located in Quepos, so you’ll be within walking distance of everything, including bus connections to Manuel Antonio. It’s not fancy, but it’s clean, colorful, and full of character, so it’s perfect if you’re after a low-key, community feel.
Expect to pay around $30 USD per night for a dorm bed, $55 USD per night for a small double room with bunk beds, or $125 USD per night for a superior double room.

Espadilla Beach
If your dream trip to Manuel Antonio includes being steps from the ocean and just minutes from the park’s wildlife trails, Espadilla Beach is the spot for you. This is the closest area to both the beach and the park, making it an incredible base for days packed with wildlife watching, hiking, and swimming.
You can walk to the park entrance in about 5 – 10 minutes from most hotels here, and you’ll have the beautiful Playa Espadilla right at your doorstep—dreamy!
This area is perfect for beach lovers, families, and travelers who want to skip the drive and stay as close to nature as possible. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed, with a few beachfront restaurants, small hotels, and shops nearby, but it’s not a party spot or foodie destination.
It’s all about location here. If you want to maximize time in the park and on the sand, you’ll love it. Just keep in mind that prices are a bit higher due to the prime setting, and dining options and amenities are more limited compared to Quepos or Manuel Antonio Finca.

La Vela Boutique Hotel – $$$
La Vela Boutique Hotel is one of the closest hotels to the park entrance, and it’s ideal for travelers who want style, comfort, and unbeatable access to Manuel Antonio’s top sights. The rooms are bright and modern with a clean, beachy vibe, and there’s a lovely pool area surrounded by tropical greenery.
Breakfast is included, and the staff are super helpful. You’re just a short walk from Playa Espadilla and the national park, so it’s easy to pop in and out throughout the day. It’s a relaxed yet polished place, and we think that it works well for couples and families alike. A double room with a private terrace will set you back $225 USD per night.
Karahe Beach Hotel – $$
Karahe Beach Hotel is all about location. You can literally walk from the property straight onto the beach! The hotel is split between beachfront and hillside rooms, so you can choose between waking up to ocean views or jungle surroundings. There’s a pool, beach loungers, and a casual restaurant on site, making it a great spot to relax without needing to go far.
While the rooms are fairly simple, you’re a 10-minute walk from the national park, so it’s a fantastic choice for nature lovers, and it won’t break the bank. One-bedroom bungalow here costs between $140 and $170 USD per night.
Oceanfront Hotel Verde Mar – $
For budget travelers who don’t want to compromise on location, Oceanfront Hotel Verde Mar is a great pick. It’s one of the few truly beachfront budget options in Manuel Antonio, with direct access to Playa Espadilla.
Rooms are basic but clean, and there’s a small pool and shared kitchen on-site. It’s a casual, no-frills kind of place that’s perfect if you plan to spend most of your time out exploring. You’re also within walking distance of the national park, so you can easily beat the crowds with early morning visits.
You can book a “student room” with bunk beds for just $60 USD per night or an economy double for $150 USD.
Manuel Antonio Finca
Manuel Antonio Finca is a quiet and residential area set just inland from the main coastal strip. It’s about a 10-minute drive from both the beach and the national park. It’s a great choice for travelers who want a peaceful, less touristy base that still offers good access to the region’s top attractions.
The area has more of a local, neighborhood feel compared to the beachfront zones, with winding roads, small hotels, and jungle views. It’s ideal for anyone seeking peace and tranquility.
There are a few cafés and restaurants scattered throughout the area. There’s a bit more going on here than in Espadilla Beach, but Manuel Antonio Finca is definitely not as bustling as Quepos.
We think that this area is a great pick for families looking for a relaxed and comfortable stay. Because of its elevation, many properties here have beautiful views of the rainforest or the ocean in the distance.
While you’ll need a car or shuttle to reach the beach or park, we think that the lower prices, the peaceful setting, and the extra amenities make this area well worth considering.

ECOTICA Boutique Hotel – $$$
ECOTICA Boutique Hotel is a lush little hideaway surrounded by jungle. It feels private and upscale without being over-the-top. Each room is decorated with natural materials and earthy tones, and there’s a pool tucked away in the gardens, along with a small spa and wellness space.
The hotel is adults-only, making it a great choice for couples looking for a romantic retreat. Location-wise, it’s about a 10-minute drive to the beach or park. We think it’s a lovely boutique option in a secluded and low-key setting! Private bungalows cost between $200 and $350 USD per night.
Hotel Villas Lirio – $$
Hotel Villas Lirio is a lovely property with a warm and rustic style that feels quintessentially Costa Rican! It’s surrounded by lush tropical gardens, and we think it offers great value for money. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, and there are two pools to cool off in after a day exploring the national park.
There’s also an on-site restaurant and bar, plus a complimentary breakfast and free parking if you’re renting a car. It’s a relaxed, family-friendly option that’s close enough to the action but set back just enough for a peaceful stay. Double rooms here can sleep up to four people and cost between $175 and $250 USD per night.
Hotel Naoz – $
Hotel Naoz is a great budget option for travelers who want a clean, comfortable place to stay without being right in the middle of the busy beach zones. The rooms are modern and minimalist, and there’s a small pool and lounge area that adds a nice touch.
It’s a 10-minute drive to the national park and beach, but you’re close to a few good restaurants and shops in the area. Quadruple rooms are available, so we think this place is ideal for families and groups. A delicious breakfast is included each morning, and the staff are super friendly.
We think this place offers excellent value for money—it really is a perfect budget pick! Rooms here typically cost between $150 and $175 USD per night.

Quepos Point
Quepos Point is a jungle-covered peninsula tucked between the Biesanz and Espadilla beaches. It’s one of the most scenic places to base yourself when visiting Manuel Antonio National Park because you’ve got panoramic ocean views, dramatic cliffs, and incredible sunsets.
This is a more upscale area, so staying here does tend to cost more, but it’s definitely the best place for luxury lovers to stay. In fact, we think that this area is ideal for couples and honeymooners. It’s less walkable than other areas, but many hotels offer shuttle services or can help arrange transport to the beach and park.
Meanwhile, the area boasts Biesanz Beach, which is a calm little cove that we love to visit for swimming and paddleboarding! Best of all, this scenic spot is within walking distance of most properties here.
Nightlife and restaurants in Quepos Point are limited compared to Quepos or Espadilla Beach, but the views, exclusivity, and serenity of Quepos Point make up for it. If you’re looking for a secluded stay with natural beauty on all sides, then we’re confident that Quepos Point will check all of your boxes!

Parador Nature Resort and Spa – $$$
Parador Nature Resort and Spa is one of the most luxurious properties in the region. In fact, we think it delivers on every front! It’s surrounded by rainforest with sweeping views of the Pacific, and it offers multiple pools, a full-service spa, and a choice of on-site restaurants.
You’ve also got easy access to hiking trails, and wildlife sightings are common around here! The vibe at Parador is peaceful but never boring. It’s perfect for honeymooners or anyone wanting a self-contained resort experience.
Despite its high-end amenities, it maintains a relaxed and welcoming feel. The staff are incredibly attentive, and there’s a complimentary shuttle service that makes it easy to reach the park and nearby beaches. Rooms here cost between $550 and $580 USD per night, including breakfast each morning.
Shana by the Beach – $$
Shana by the Beach is a stylish boutique hotel set above Biesanz Beach, and it offers a mix of modern comfort and laid-back luxury. The location is hard to beat because it’s just a short walk to the beach and surrounded by jungle. Don’t be surprised if you spot monkeys or sloths nearby as you lounge by the pool!
Rooms here are spacious with private balconies and beautiful views. We think it offers a fantastic, upscale stay without requiring you to spend a fortune. Rooms here cost around $300 USD per night, including breakfast and free cancellation up to two weeks before your stay.
Jungle Vista Boutique Hotel – $
Jungle Vista Boutique Hotel is a great budget-friendly option in Quepos Point, offering a more affordable way to stay in one of the area’s most scenic spots. Rooms are clean and modern with a fresh, minimalist design, and many have jungle or ocean views from the balconies.
The hotel has a small pool and restaurant, and it’s within walking distance of Biesanz Beach. It’s also close to some of the higher-end resorts, so you get access to the same beautiful surroundings for a fraction of the price. We think that this is a really smart pick for budget-conscious travelers!
Standard rooms here start from $275 USD per night and can sleep up to four people.

Top Activities to do in Manuel Antonio
With your stay in Manuel Antonio sorted, it’s time to get out there and experience the adventures this lush region is famous for. From epic ziplines to whitewater thrills and unforgettable wildlife encounters, these are some of the most popular tours in Manuel Antonio—so book early, because spots fill up fast!
- Soar above the jungle canopy – Flying through the rainforest on this zipline canopy tour, we tackled 10 ziplines—including the longest twin zipline in all of Central America! With hanging bridges, a Tarzan swing, and sweeping jungle views, it was the perfect mix of adrenaline and fun.
- Sail into golden hour – This sunset sailing tour with lunch and an open bar was a major highlight. We snorkeled, spotted dolphins, and relaxed on deck with fresh grilled fish and cold drinks. Watching the sun melt into the Pacific from the boat was pure magic.
- Glide through the mangroves – We loved floating past tangled roots and hidden wildlife on this Damas Island mangrove boat tour. Our guide pointed out sloths, snakes, and even a sleeping boa constrictor! It was calm, scenic, and full of surprising moments we wouldn’t have seen on our own.
- Chase waterfalls off the beaten path – We ventured deep into the jungle on this full-day waterfall adventure tour, hiking through remote forest trails, swimming in cool natural pools, and climbing behind falls. It felt rugged and real—like getting a secret glimpse of Costa Rica’s wild side.
- Conquer the Savegre River – Packed with thrills, this whitewater rafting tour delivered nonstop fun. The Savegre’s Class II and III rapids were ideal for beginners and still exciting. Our guide made it feel totally safe, and the jungle scenery along the way was jaw-droppingly beautiful.
Getting Around Costa Rica
How you choose to get around Costa Rica is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning your holiday here! How you do it depends on your budget, travel style, and comfort level.
Renting a Car
Without a doubt, the number one way to explore Costa Rica is in a rental car. We book rental cars on the Discover Cars website as we have had good experiences with them in the past.
One of the things you need to watch for when renting a car in Costa Rica is the mandatory insurance that the government requires you to have. There are a lot of very cheap rentals that don’t include this mandatory insurance (TPL) in the original booking price, but there are also ones that do. To avoid additional surprise charges when you pick up your rental car, be sure to rent a car that includes the mandatory insurance when you book.
Thankfully, on Discover Cars it’s easy to tell apart the companies that include the mandatory insurance and those that don’t. The trick is you can’t pick any car on their website. In the picture below, you can see this rental car, with pick up in Jaco, includes the TPL. That means the mandatory insurance is included in the price. Any cover you get above that is extra.

Book Shuttles
If renting a car isn’t in your budget, you don’t feel comfortable driving in Costa Rica, or you just don’t like driving, shuttles are the next best option. There are hundreds of shuttle routes available all over the country, and they are very affordable.
Shuttles in Costa Rica are specifically for tourists and often include pick up and drop off at your selected hotels and airports. The drivers also speak some English, and the vehicles have air conditioning. You’ll also be guaranteed a seat when you book a shuttle (which isn’t the case with the public bus system.)

Public Bus
Lastly, you can use the public bus system. On short journeys, such as from San Jose to La Fortuna or Uvita to Manuel Antonio, this system is great. However, the longer the journey the more hassle and time spent on a bus. It’s undoubtedly best to save the public bus in Costa Rica for short and straightforward trips!
The public buses are definitely the cheapest way to get around Costa Rica, but they are not always very reliable and schedules often change without notice and delays are to be expected. The buses can also be very crowded and hot – so just be prepared!
It’s also good to speak some Spanish if you plan on riding the public bus since most drivers and ticket booth operators don’t speak English.
