CC Beach Front Papagayo, also called Casa Conde Beach Front Hotel, is an all-inclusive resort set on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, on the southern point of Culebra Bay. It is an eco-friendly property surrounded by tropical dry forests and lies next to a beach called Playa Panama.

Playa Panama is a dark-sand beach with a very laid-back atmosphere. It is a certified Blue Flag beach, which means it has an international designation recognizing its environmental programs and excellent water quality. There’s also smooth, powdery sand and gentle currents perfect for swimming – especially if you’re traveling as a family with young kids.

Being close to Culebra Bay, the area is also ideal for snorkeling, kayaking, scuba diving, and sailing.

Near the resort are two towns, one being called Brasilito, which is a modest fishing town with a few restaurants and souvenir shops. The other neighboring town, Huacas, is known for its epic views of nearby mountain ranges.

Facing the Pacific Ocean, the location is a great spot for enjoying water sports like snorkeling, diving, jet skiing, and surfing, among others. Playing golf at Reserva Conchal Golf Course and biking on the many trails are other things you can do. • Location: The resort is in Playa Hermosa, just 15 minutes from the town of Playas del Coco and a 30-minute car ride from the closest airport, Liberia’s Guanacaste Airport

Villas Sol Beach Resort sits between cliffs in the beach town of Playa Hermosa. It overlooks the Gulf of Papagayo and is surrounded by tropical forests and mountains. The setting is simply gorgeous!

Situated in a valley, Playa Hermosa has a well-maintained beach that is not often crowded and is peaceful most of the year. Along with the accommodations, restaurants, and shops line the shore. Near the town is another popular place I like to explore called Playas del Coco.

Because it’s so close to the Gulf of Papagayo, which is filled with marine life, Playa Hermosa and the neighboring towns are popular spots for scuba diving, snorkeling, fishing, and other water sports. Villas Sol has more fun things to offer, which is why it makes our list as one of the best all-inclusive resorts in Costa Rica. Kids can pick from numerous activities such as inflatable games, ball games, and sand castle building, among others. Meanwhile, adults can do yoga or cardio, or enjoy the onsite nightlife, which involves a DJ, karaoke, and plenty of music.

4. Occidental Tamarindo 

• Location: Downtown Tamarindo is just 10 minutes away, while the nearest airport in Liberia is a little over an hour away by car
• Amenities: 3 restaurants, 2 bars, outdoor pool, hot tub, spa, fitness center, tennis courts, volleyball courts, complimentary Wi-Fi, valet parking
• Price range: The rate ranges from $336 to $726 USD per night

Occidental Tamarindo has a dreamy Costa Rican setting as it lies right on Playa Langosta Beach next to Las Baulas National Park. It’s the only all-inclusive resort in Tamarindo, a well-loved beach town in the Guanacaste province.

Tamarindo is one of my favorite spots in the whole country because the beaches here are spectacular! It’s also a great place to learn how to surf with the calm and consistent waves. Plus, the weather is ideal most of the time, and it’s surrounded by national parks and wildlife reserves.

While the all-inclusive resort has plenty of food to offer, I also like the option to wander into town to check out some of the great restaurants in Tamarindo along with shopping and bars to experience the vibrant and fun nightlife around here!

During your stay at this Costa Rican all-inclusive resort, one of the activities you can do is surfing on Langosta Beach. Deep-sea fishing, kayaking, and snorkeling are also possible here. If you’re not into water sports, try land activities like horseback riding, cycling, ATV tours, ziplining, and beach hopping.

There’s also not a dull moment at Occidental Tamarindo because of the many onsite recreational facilities including tennis courts and volleyball courts. You can even join in dance and aerobics classes that take place in the pool!

If you need to recharge after a fun day, savor some local dishes and international cuisines like Italian and Japanese at the onsite restaurants. Or take a sip of your favorite cocktail at the bars. You also have the option to get pampered at the spa – that’s a vacation must!

Hotel Rivel – Adventure and Nature Retreat is set on mountains filled with trees and lush greenery. I really like the secluded area this resort is in as you’re far away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s a perfect haven for a relaxing getaway.

The hotel is specifically located in the Turrialba district, which is considered one of Costa Rica’s most mountainous terrains. This area is also home to the active Turrialba Volcano and Turrialba Volcano National Park, both of which can be visited while you’re staying here.

If you’re a foodie, this area is also well known for its Turrialba cheese and the amazing variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. I definitely eat well when I’m visiting here!

With a stay at Hotel Rivel, you are surrounded by a plethora of activities. Go down the Pacuare River or Pejibaye on a raft or I like that you can grab one of the free bikes at the retreat and cycle around the area. You can also do canyoning and ziplining or visit La Marta Wildlife Refuge and the 20-hectare archaeological site of Guayabo National Monument which lets you explore the ruins of an ancient city.

What’s more, the staff can prepare breakfast for you every morning, whether it’s a la carte, continental, or Full English/Irish. 6. Hotel Serendipity

• Location: In the town of Tortuguero, the nearest airport in San Jose is 2.5 hours away
• Amenities: Restaurant, complimentary Wi-Fi, hammocks, shuttle service
• Price range: The all-inclusive average at $228 USD per night

Within walking distance of the beach, Hotel Serendipity is an all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica that’s only for adults. It is situated in Tortuguero on the northeastern side of the country.

Tortuguero is a remote and beautiful village that’s accessible only by boat or plane. It’s worth the journey to get here though I promise!

The beautiful beaches here are among the best places to see turtles in all of Costa Rica. They are one of the most important nesting grounds in the Caribbean for various species of turtles. Between July and October, hundreds of turtles crawl onto the beach to dig holes in the sand and lay their eggs. I highly recommend this turtle nesting tour if you want to see this up close.

If you’re here later in the year (we were here in December), you might even get to see the baby turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean. It’s adorable and a really special thing to witness.

You may also visit Tortuguero National Park, which is just north of Hotel Serendipity. This park is sometimes called the “Amazon” of Costa Rica because you will feel transported to the rainforest! Try to spot endangered green macaws, three species of monkeys, jaguars, tapirs, manatees, and more. You may also hike to Cerro de Tortuguero, explore the rainforest on a canoe, or go on a cool adventure after dark with a night walk in the national park.

To end your day, treat yourself to an in-room massage or relax on the shared terrace while you upload a few pictures to Instagram or blog (like us!) with the handy free Wi-Fi. • Location: The all-inclusive resort is about 10 minutes from the villages of Pochote and Panica and 3 hours from the nearest major airport in Liberia
• Amenities: 4 restaurants, 3 bars, 3 tennis courts, 2 outdoor pools, children’s pool, kids’ club, teens’ house, volleyball court, soccer court, spa, nightclub, and free Wi-Fi and parking
• Price range: The online rate typically ranges from $258 to $554 USD per night

Barcelo Tambor is set on Playa Tambor which is actually located really close to Tambor Airport, which offers domestic flights. I love the views here of Bahia Ballena Bay on one side of the property and then lush hills on the other. At one end of Playa Tambor is Pochote, a small fishing village with a dark-gray-sand beach to explore.

Bahia Ballena Bay is a horseshoe-shaped bay where you can go swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing, and the like. Other activities you can try near Barcelo Tambor are golfing at Los Delfines Golf & Country Club, riding a horse to the hills in town or along the Panica River, and exploring Curu Wildlife Refuge.

If you’re looking for an active holiday or have kids along, there’s a ton to do on the resort itself. You can play tennis, volleyball, or soccer, try out archery, and even go wall-climbing. Kids can have fun at the club, while teens can spend their time in the Teen’s House full of trendy games, video games, and more. This is definitely an all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica made for families!

To cap off a fun day, treat yourself to a meal at one of the four onsite restaurants. They offer international cuisine, Japanese dishes, seafood, and meat. Or you can head to one of the bars for a glass of wine or a delicious cocktail, house liqueurs, and beer.

8. LagunaVista Villas

• Location: The pet-friendly resort is about 2 hours from the nearest town of Puerto Jiménez, and 7.5 hours from the closest airport in San Jose
• Amenities: Infinity pool, bar, restaurant, garden, private beach area, and complimentary Wi-Fi and parking
• Price range: Typically from $396 to $720 USD per night

LagunaVista Villas is located in a secluded area facing Playa Carate. It’s tucked away in a forested area, allowing you to reconnect with nature and de-stress. Unlike most resorts that you can reach by driving in Costa Rica, this is a little more of an adventure to get to! You’ll need to take a boat or kayak to cross the lagoon from Playa Carate.

This Costa Rican all-inclusive resort consists of eight Mediterranean-style villas, which are all solar-powered and eco-friendly. Each has a fully screened bedroom, a separate bathroom with twin hot-water showers and bathtubs, and a deck with plunge pools offering sweeping views of the rainforest, beach, lagoon, and ocean.

You also get to enjoy views of the surroundings from the restaurant while you savor your continental breakfast. Vegetarian, vegan, and buffet options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are also included in the nightly rate. If you want to relax before or after meals, the outdoor swimming pool and garden are great spaces. If you prefer a quieter area, you can find a spot in the private beach area.

The nearest town to LagunaVista Villas is Puerto Jimenez, which is bordered by Corcovado National Park on one side and Golfo Dulce on the other. The national park is home to a variety of wildlife including jaguars, scarlet macaws, and harpy eagles, just to name a few, while Golfo Dulce is home to beautiful beaches and is a great place for water sports.

Because of the resort’s proximity to the national park, you HAVE to take the time to explore it! Corcovado National Park can only be visited with a tour – you can’t just wander around on your own. I recommend this day tour from Puerto Jimenez. You’ll start the tour by boat and it’s not too physically demanding if you’re not into hiking, but you’ll still see some of the park’s most iconic animals.

Andaz Costa Rica Resort is a luxury all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica. Set in a jungle in Papagayo Peninsula, the property welcomes travelers and is pet-friendly too. This is one of only a few beachfront resorts on the peninsula, so it’s an exclusive place to stay.

Papagayo Peninsula is an area spanning 1,400 acres and showcases the magnificent biodiversity of this country. Surrounding the peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site called Area de Conservacion Guanacaste. This 400,000-acre protected area hosts a wide range of species.

For beach lovers (like me!), there are three beaches close to the resort, with the nearest only a two-minute walk away. Water sports like snorkeling, paddleboarding, and kayaking are great choices and the best part is that as a guest here, you can use all this equipment for free!

Other activities and tours offered in the area include some of the best things to do in Costa Rica from walking tours, bike tours, ziplining, river floating, and visiting Arenal Volcano National Park or Barra Honda National Park.

I definitely don’t think you can get bored here – even if you don’t leave the resort! Here you can swim in one of the four pools, work out in the gym, or go ziplining between the trees and canopies. Kids can also have fun at the Cambi Kids’ Club, while teens can join exclusive excursions with Camp Jaguar.

For relaxation, they have a spa offering massages, body treatments, manicures, pedicures, and Reiki. Sitting on Playa Conchal on Costa Rica’s marvelous North Pacific Coast is the all-inclusive Westin Resort and Spa. This is one of the most beautiful areas of Costa Rica with sunshine galore and stunning beaches. The property itself is bordered on both sides by forests and unspoiled beaches.

Deemed one of the most unique beaches in the country, Playa Conchal’s sand is actually made up of millions of tiny pieces of white shells, most of which are at the eastern end of the beach. You can swim or snorkel here during the day in the calm and crystal-clear waters. I’m always up for a little stargazing too and this beach is a great spot to look at stars once the sun goes down.

There are also two lagoon-style pools and a kids’ club for the younger guests. But if you wish to release built-up stress and tension from your body, head to the spa for a massage, facial, or salon services.

Overlooking Culebra Bay, Secrets Papagayo is an all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica that is exclusively for adults. Set on a hill on the quiet Arenillas Beach, I think this resort is perfect for wedding ceremonies, a Costa Rican honeymoon, anniversaries, and other romantic getaways.

Arenillas Beach is a short coastline with gray sand and turquoise water. The shore is lined with plenty of trees giving natural shade. The property is situated in a tranquil place with lots of trees and vegetation and only a couple of towns nearby.

With the resort sitting right on a beach, exciting activities like fishing, scuba diving, and swimming are just steps away.

Day and night entertainment is also offered at Secrets Papagayo including musical performances, karaoke, evening shows, and weekly cocktail parties. There are also two swimming pools, a well-equipped fitness center, and a spa.

For meals, this all-inclusive resort has five restaurants, five bars, and two cafes. Grilled dishes, Pan-Asian cuisine, and international cuisine are just some of the options.

Best Western Jaco Beach is a 4-star all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica sitting on Jaco Beach in the town of the same name. Jaco is actually the nearest seaside destination to the country’s capital city of San Jose, so it’s a great place to base yourself to spend time in Costa Rica.

As one of the most developed beach towns in the country, Jaco is jam-packed with things to do! From exploring Carara National Park, soaking up the sun at the beach, riding through the jungle on an ATV, or surfing. Jaco is also famous for its party atmosphere and adult-only activities, but it has become a more kid-friendly vacation spot in recent years. The nightlife here is great and if you want to party, this is the spot! The town also includes tons of boutique and souvenir shops and some really great restaurants.

Jaco is one of the best places to go surfing in Costa Rica! If you’re not a pro, don’t worry. The waves around Jaco Beach are strong and consistent but not too powerful. As a beginner myself, I really liked the soft waves and huge beach so I could practice without a big crowd. (This surf lesson is a good option for beginners!).

After busy days exploring Jaco, rooms at this all-inclusive resort are great to come back to. They are equipped with air conditioning, a TV with free movie channels, and an en suite bathroom with a bathtub. Each unit offers either garden views or pool views, and selected ones come with a balcony.

I have family in Canada, so this is a really nice perk for me! Four Seasons Resort is another all-inclusive resort on Costa Rica’s Papagayo Peninsula. This peninsula on the northwestern side of the country offers a unique closeness to nature and amazing adventures for everybody from couples to families. This huge area includes tropical forests and miles of unspoiled beaches.

Four Seasons Resort is conveniently located between two beaches – one facing the Gulf of Papagayo while the other fronts Culebra Bay – making it a top all-inclusive resort for beach lovers. Thanks to its position on the peninsula, the resort has various water sports to offer including surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing, catamaran sailing, and boating.

I also recommend taking a tour of the Papagayo Peninsula if you can and to nearby areas including top national parks in Costa Rica like Palo Verde National Park and Arenal Volcano National Park.

While there’s plenty to see and do in the area, Four Seasons Resort offers various activities to guests within the property – especially if you’re into sports! They have five pro-level tennis courts, three pickleball courts, and an 18-hole, par-72 golf course overlooking Bahia de Culebra. There are also four swimming pools and a Tuanis Teen Center where teenagers will find a flat-screen TV, a DVD player, video games, computers, iPod docking stations, and free internet.

Of course, that’s not all! One of the best parts of an all-inclusive resort is the food and the Four Seasons delivers on that too. You can find an array of food choices at the four onsite restaurants. They serve Italian cuisine, local food, salads, vegetarian dishes, seafood, and steaks. A children’s menu is available as well as a sushi bar.

• Price range: The average rate per night for double occupancy starts at $198 USD

On Costa Rica’s Central Pacific Coast is the all-inclusive property of Fiesta Resort. The property is located in the town of El Roble, which is just a short drive (about 20 minutes) from the port city of Puntarenas.

El Roble’s beaches are famous for their beautiful volcanic sand and crystal-clear waters, so staying nearby at this resort is a fantastic way to see them! Like most coastal towns, El Roble is ideal for water sports like fishing, kayaking, and surfing as well as for watching beautiful sunsets. You can also play beach volleyball, tennis, or golf at the resort. If you’re here as a family, kids and teenagers can have fun at the kids’ and teens’ clubs.

While it’s a small town, I find El Roble is a great place for a stopover or an excellent base for seeing popular attractions in the province of Puntarenas, which is the biggest in the country and one of the most visited.

The city of Puntarenas is located nearby on a sliver of land and beach that stretches into the Gulf of Nicoya, directly across from the Nicoya Peninsula. One of my favorite things to do in the city is stroll along Paseo de los Turistas (Tourists Boulevard) to see all the art galleries, markets, aquariums, bars, and restaurants.

You can also arrange trips to Carara National Park, Palo Verde National Park (it’s only 10km/6 miles away), and the magical Monteverde Cloud Forest, which is less than a two-hour drive from the resort. If you’re traveling with a group of friends or family, then a private Monteverde Cloud Forest tour is a great way to explore the reserve. On this tour, you’ll have a chance to see quetzals, Monteverde’s most iconic bird, as well as howler monkeys, sloths, and more!

Riu Palace is a 5-star all-inclusive resort situated in a secluded area in Guanacaste province just a two-minute walk from the beautiful Matapalo Beach.

Guanacaste is less tropical, lush, and humid than the rest of Costa Rica. In fact, its plains and dry forests can be compared to more of an African savanna landscape. However, this means there isn’t the usual “rainy season” so you’re more likely to have sunshine and great weather!

Aside from its picturesque golden sand beaches, this area is also known for its cowboy culture and long summer days. It’s also a popular destination for plenty of bucket list worthy activities like windsurfing, ziplining, scuba diving, horseback riding, sailing, and snorkeling. The resort has equipment you can use and you can even learn to scuba dive by taking lessons in the resort’s pool! How cool is that?

You can enjoy yourself within the resort, too, thanks to the many recreational amenities onsite including a tennis court, a volleyball court, and an area for table tennis. They also have something for young guests including a children’s playground, a kids’ club, and a water park.

You can also expect to see four outdoor swimming pools, a hot tub/Jacuzzi, a fitness center, and a shared lounge. There’s even a 24-hour front desk with staff who are always ready to lend a helping hand and four restaurants with chefs who prepare a variety of dishes, from classic to the most exotic. The restaurants are open for snacks and the three important meals of the day.

This all-inclusive resort in Costa Rica also houses a wellness center where you can enjoy a relaxing massage or a body wrap, body waxing, facial treatments, and more. And if your stay is business-related, there are five conference rooms, modern and fully equipped for meetings or events.
